A new $93m port terminal is to be built in Capurro, Montevideo, in Uruguay, which will include an exclusive area for the transfer of fishery products to major international markets.

Due to increasing activity, the new port terminal will relieve the central docks of the port.

Spanish company Abengoa – a company that applies technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors - has a 50% stake in the winning consortium. Abengoa will be responsible for drawing up the final design and construction of approximately 1,000m of quays for industrial fishing vessels, with the corresponding protection, berthing and defence works. Also, it will fill an area of 2.5 hectares, and will carry out the paving, drainage, power distribution of drinking water and fuel, as well as the dredging of the basin and its final location against the promenade, on an area up to 20 hectares.

The engineering works are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2015, with a deadline of nine months for the drafting and 30 months for its execution. It is expected to generate direct work for 140 people.
