Dutch ice specialist Cold & Fresh International has launched a new concept of fish ice cooling with the introduction of fish ice cooling gel pads which are ideal for storage and transport of fresh fish.
Fish Ice consists of a printed laminated PE foil, absorption powder and a non-woven PP fleece. The power turns into a gel based cooling medium once it is submerged in water.
After six hours at -15C the frozen cushions ensure a long lasting cooling capacity. Fish Ice has the benefit of importers not having to have fish laying in melt water and it is also seen as an alternative to flake ice products.
Cold & Fresh also claim costs of air freight shipments of fresh fish can be saved using the gel pads instead of other ice.
