The Trustees of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) welcomed the appointment of John Connelly to the MSC Board yesterday.
John Connelly, President of the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) since 2003, represents a wide range of interests of US fish and seafood businesses. With commercial fishing vessel owners, importers, processors, distributors, restaurants and grocery markets as members, NFI represents the fish and seafood commerce chain from ‘the water to the table.’
"NFI welcomes the opportunity to participate in the MSC Board of Trustees," Mr Connelly said. "I look forward to working with MSC and will help convey to the organisation the seafood producers’ perspective for such certification programs."
Mr Connelly’s appointment follows the departure last November of Murray France and Chris Nissen from the MSC Board, both of whom represented the fisheries catch sector.
Will Martin, Chairman of the MSC Board, commented: "John will be a great and energetic board member who will certainly enhance the MSC’s work. His knowledge and perspective on the US catch sector is invaluable and by joining the MSC Board we hope that we will attract the support of many new partners."
