WESMAR’s dealer in Iceland, Sonar ehf, will be showing WESMAR’s trawl sonar sleds at IceFish, including a new BioLight option for attracting fish.

WESMAR says that its two trawl systems and five trawl sleds give trawlers the most options available on the market today. Trawlers can select the frequency that best fits their fishery and net size and type. The WESMAR systems are differentiated by power, range and size and the five trawl sled options are differentiated by frequency and size. Both the models TCS785 and TCS385 trawl systems include net profile and sounder capabilities, and the TCS785 also includes forward scanning. Working depth for the 785 is 1800m and for the 385, 1000m.

The TCS785 series is available in 300 or 180 kHz. At 300 kHz the footrope/bottom relation can be viewed in greater detail. Both 785 models can scan forward of the net and view the doors. The TCS785-180 kHz sled is a long-range system designed for larger nets with a large vertical and horizontal opening. The TCS385 series is available in 500, 300 or 180 kHz.

BioLight Option
The BioLight Option (Patent pending), includes three additional crash boots, all translucent. One each in clear, blue and green and they all allow the bright lights to shine through. Software with this option allows the captain to control whether the lights are on and if so whether they are steady or flashing or simulating the bioluminescence of jelly fish. The concept is that bottom fish may be attracted off the bottom ahead of the footrope, the net will then fish more efficiently and capture fish that would otherwise be lost. Power to the lights comes from the third wire, so no batteries are required.
