Marport of Iceland''s new NC-42 Digital net sounder, with its latest transceiver, digital signal processing and software is due on the market this autumn. It combines a headrope-mounted transmitter, a hull mounted transducer and bridge instrumentation, displaying trawl opening, location, the presence of fish in and around the trawl and temperature. Data is by wireless and digitised to minimise underwater noise and interference. It has four modes: downward, dual (up and down -- with targets related to transmitter position ), true depth (in relation to sea surface) and history.

The NC-42 can interface with the CommandViewâ„¢ wireless network server to integrate, display and record data from other onboard sensors including GPS, trawl monitoring sensors, etc. All data can be recorded to hard disk for replay and analysis.

Oskar Axelsson, Marport md, says the compact and rugged system is easy to install and operate and is good deep-water and bottom trawlers.

Compatibility with colour net recorders from other manufacturers will cuts costs significantly, he says especially when retrofitting or replacing lost or damaged sensors.

The NC-42 works to a maximum, headrope-transmitter depth of 2,500m and data reception of 4,000m at 33 KHz. Battery life is up to 72 hours
