An order worth NOK500 million for a new freezer trawler has been placed with Vard by Nergård Havfiske

Nergård went back to Vard for this second vessel just as its new 80 metre Senja is about to be delivered, and this additional vessel is to be built to the same Vard 8 02 design with much the same range of equipment and capabilities. This includes live tanks so that fish can be held alive prior to processing, plus a top of the line factory deck and ensilage tanks for storage of processing offcuts that can be delivered ashore for further utilisation.
The new trawler will have both diesel-mechanical and diesel-electric propulsion, in addition to batteries, a SeaQ Energy Storage System and SeaQ Power Management System. The steelwork will be carried out at Vard’s Braila yard in Romania and delivered to Bravvtaag for fitting out, with a delivery date scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
“We are looking forward to see Senja in operation. These two new builds represent a new generation of vessels for us, both in terms of efficiency and quality. Our fishermen have now a fantastic tool available to utilise our fishing quotas in the best possible way,” ’ commented Nergård Havfiske CEO Tommy Torvanger.
“We are honoured that Nergård Havfiske once again has chosen Vard to design and build their new vessel,” added Erik Haakonsholm, Vard’s General Manager, Offshore and Specialised Vessels.
“When customers return to us to sign new orders, it’s a clear indication of the quality – not only of the design and the vessel, but also the performance of the staff and the project teams. This is a highly appreciated contract for all our colleagues at Vard, and it creates a positive spin-off effect in the maritime cluster for all suppliers involved. Nergård’s decision to take delivery of their new vessel in Norway for the second time in such a short period, proves their focus on maintaining the Norwegian maritime cluster and industry.”
