Ice Trawl Greenland’s new Nataarnaq, which will replace the company''s current trawler of the same name, has been launched at Astilleros de Murueta in Spain.
The new trawler’s build has been put back by the Covid-19 pandemic and according to Ice Trawl Greenland’s chairman Ove Rosing, completion is scheduled for August 2021.
“Due to the Corona situation, the ship has been launched without the company's board being present,” he said.
“Ice Trawl Greenland celebrates its 30-year anniversary in 2021. The Board of Directors is very satisfied with the company's results over these years and happy that it can be marked with the new very beautiful and modern shrimp trawler.”
The new Nataarnaq has an 82.30 metre overall length and an 18 metre beam. It is designed to carry a crew up 30 on 28 single and one double cabin. The two-level refrigerated fishroom will have a 2950 cubic metre capacity. Like the current Nataarnaq, the new trawler will operate exclusively on shrimp in Greenlandic and Svalbard waters.
Ove Rosing commented that the new trawler will be formally christened when it arrives in Sisimiut in the autumn of 2021.
