Northern Shipyard of Gdansk, Poland has just signed a contract to build and deliver - for April 2005 - a complete shrimp trawler for Norwegian owner Tråsavik ANS, based in Egersund.

Northern Shipyard delivered the purse seiner trawler "Vea" earlier this year. The Tråsavik vessel will be designed by naval architects Sawicon, Bergen, Norway offering state-of-the-art technology.

The vessel will be equipped with three trawl winches and three net drums located aft. The processing equipment for the catch consists on electric shale shaker, shrimp cooker and an ice machine located on main deck.

The shipyard says it beat off tough competition from Norwegian shipyards.

This winning bid was in part because Tråsavik was pleased with the experience and high level of the Polish workforce as well as what it called the excellence and range of the yard's technical facilities. This was backed up by high standards of work already carried out by Northern Shipyard which has recognition from all world-wide classification societies and has a general 9001:2000 certificate.

Northern Shipyard was established in 1945 and belongs to Remontowa Gdansk Shiprepair Yard Group. As its one field of specialisation the yard delivered over 150 fishing vessels of different sizes and types to owners from Iceland, Norway, Faroe Islands, Soviet Union, Poland, France and Scotland.
