The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has announced the official opening of the department’s new Fisheries Service Centre on Campobello Island, New Brunswick.
“Our Government is committed to improving services to the fishing industry in South West New Brunswick,” said Minister Shea. “The construction of this new service centre has brought investment to the area and will now help DFO deliver its programs effectively in the community.”
The new service centre at Wilson’s Beach houses three Conservation and Protection officers responsible for fisheries patrols and enforcement as well as conservation education in and around Campobello Island. The new facility provides office space and special purpose space including a heated garage bay, an outside compound area, an operations room, an interview room, secure firearms and evidence storage.
The new 170m2 building was built by a Campobello Island contractor using local materials and suppliers.
The project is part of an overall DFO accommodation strategy for Southwest New Brunswick that has already seen new offices built over the last three years in Grand Manan Island and St. George.
