The Galician shipyard, MCíes, is in the second phase of development of the planes of the two oceanographics that it is constructing for the Spanish Institute of Oceanography.
The company was awarded with the construction of these vessels last October in a public contest where it prevailed against the principal shipyards of the country.
The twin vessels (46m length and 10.5m beam) will be the most ecological and technologically advanced crafts of its category. The two engines of electrical propulsion have efficiency optimisation systems that will provide the crafts with great power without increasing its consumption. Furthermore, the application of the latest advances in automation systems will mean that less crew members are required and will guarantee a major safety for the crew that are onboard.
The two new oceanographics will be the most ecological of the sector. The Galician company also constructed the "Miguel Oliver", capable of fulfilling the standards of ICES relative to the reduction of vibrations and sonorous emission. This technology, with the latest advances in this area, will be applied to the new vessels and the level of noise emissions will allow them to compare with military and submarine vessels of diesel propulsion.
This project has also gained Clean Ship status, relative to the pours and management of garbage, and the qualification Comfort Plus, granted only to vessels that possess the highest requirements in terms of habitability and crew comfort.
The vessels will be equipped for the accomplishment of missions in the areas of marine geology, physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, marine biology, fishery and pollution.
