SINAVAL-EUROFISHING is to host the 27th Marine Propulsion Conference on January 27-28 2005. Organisers of the event, which is run by UK-based maritime technology journal The Motor Ship, have announced that it will be chaired by Tony Roskilly, Professor of Marine Engineering at the School of Marine Science and Technology, University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The keynote presentation will review the future of marine engines and propulsion systems, followed by four sessions spread over two days: the Engine Forum; propellers and shaftline; monitoring and maintenance; and practical application of research.
In the Engine Forum, Wärtsilä and MAN B&W will share their service experience and discuss the prospects for marine diesel engines. A session on propulsion and shaftline follows, featuring the development of high-tech propellers from Sistemar/Izar/Cehipar and Sumitomo Heavy Industries/Stone Managanise Marine, before delegates finish the day at the traditional Motor Ship Cocktail Party.
Highlights on the morning of the second day include a look at maintenance, monitoring and control while the afternoon session has the important topic of taking research through into practical application. This session will include speakers from Rolls-Royce and Alstom Power Conversion, as well as research establishments such as China's Naval University of Engineering and the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands.
Next year's SINAVAL-EUROFISHING exhibition will be the first time that the show will be organised according to sectors, with separate sections for electronics, engines and propulsion, shipyards, component manufacturers and distributors (shipbuilding and fishing industry suppliers) and public institutions. The first two of these sections account for 35 per cent of the firms signed up to date, and component manufacturers account for a further 30 per cent. The remaining participants are split between shipyards, sectoral associations with their members and public institutions.
It will also be the first time that the show has been held at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre. Organisers have confirmed that virtually all space has been booked up with over 400 firms currently exhibiting. They have also been taking part in various promotional events, including sending a marketing team to Isla Cristina in the province of Huelva to meet with members of the other three Spanish shipping industry fairs with a view to reaching co-operation agreements and making progress through synergy towards their common goals.
