Ismar was established in 1982 and is located in Reykjavik, Iceland.

When the company was first formed, its business was only in the marine field, mainly serving the fishing fleet with fish finding and navigational equipment. Over the years, Ismar has expanded into other areas and can now provide hi-tech solutions for construction on land and at sea.
For many years, solutions from Ismar have been used for major projects in Iceland, such as harbour construction, breakwater building and dredging, as well as road construction and hydroelectric power plants.
Ismar offers solutions for construction and high precision work from leading company Trimble. Cooperation between the two companies has been very successful, going back to 1986, and the two GPS correction (DGPS and RTK) systems running in Iceland are both from Ismar and Trimble.
Ismar has been successful over the years and has been a pioneer in providing new technology for various applications. The latest unique technology the company can offer to the marine industry is Thermal Imaging solutions from FLIR, which is the leading company in this area.
The technology is suitable for any vessel, whether it be fishing, merchant, search and rescue or coast guard. The technology enables the user to see in the darkest night in the same way as on the brightest day. The technology has already been well received in the Icelandic fleet. Among others, the Icelandic Coast Guard uses FLIR systems and so are some small fishing boats. The biggest research vessel in Iceland, Arni Fridriksson, is equipped with a FLIR system, as well as some of the rescue boats.
Ismar also provides other solutions such as AIS for the Icelandic fleet and represents proven brand names in this field, such as SAAB Transpondertech and TrueHeading. Pedestals for radars and thermal cameras and other installation material from Scanstrut form part of Ismar’s solutions, as well as professional lights from Streamlight.
At the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition 2011, Ismar will show many of those solutions and, among others, different types of Thermal Imaging cameras and scopes, AIS class-A and B, hardware and software solutions for dredging and construction, professional lights and searchlights, multibeam data handling software and more.
