Norwegian refrigeration company PTG Frionordica AS has secured a contract with Larsnes Mek Verksted to deliver two refrigerated seawater (RSW) systems for Rostein’s new live fish carrier.

The vessel, designed by Skipskompetanse in Måløy, and Larsnes Mek’s build no 74, will serve four fish farming companies along the Norwegian Helgeland coast, providing significant benefits for Norway’s supplier industry.
The RSW systems from PTG Frionordica are compact, comprehensive solutions for efficient cooling of seawater and fish. Previously, PTG Frionordica has provided similar systems for the retrofit of two other Rostein live fish carriers.
“We are very proud to supply RSW systems once again to Rostein and Larsnes Mek Verksted,” PTG Frionordica Sales and Marketing Director Johnny Valle said. “It’s gratifying that the shipyard and shipping company value PTG Frionordica’s locally produced equipment.”
PTG Frionordica’s factory in Malmefjorden, Hustadvika municipality, employs around 60 people, including apprentices.
“A newbuild generates positive ripple effects for Norwegian shipyards and suppliers, creating around 15–16 new jobs onboard this vessel in operation,” Rostein Vice President Glen Bradley said.
With this vessel, Rostein has commissioned nearly NOK 5 billion in newbuilds at Larsnes Mek, noted Larsnes Mek CEO Jarle Gunnarstein, adding that this highlights the importance of the aquaculture industry to the shipyard and suppliers in Norway’s marine and maritime clusters.
With a cargo capacity of 3,700 cubic meters, the battery-hybrid wellboat will feature cutting-edge fish welfare technology and two 2,100 kW RSW systems from PTG Frionordica.
Expected for delivery in Q2 2026, the vessel will serve fish farmers Lovundlaks Sjø, Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett, Seløy Sjøfarm, and Kobbvåglaks on the Helgeland coast.
