The Illinois Soybean Association support the use of soybeans in fish feed as a lower cost, more sustainable option than traditional fishmeal. Soybean is also beneficial as it contains the best amino acid complex of all plants.
They believe that due to the rising demand of traditional fishmeal, an alternative and more sustainable option is important. Soybean meal, protein, and oil are viable replacements for the customary fish-based options, and can replace from one-third to one-half of the fishmeal in feeds for many species, thus reducing pressure on wild fish reserves.
As members of the Ocean Stewards Institute, Illinois Soybean Association will be sponsoring the conference in cooperation with the Ocean Stewards Institute, sponsoring coffee breaks.
Also speaking on their behalf will be Alex Buentello Director of Animal Nutrition Research, Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM).
He will be discussing: Biotechnology and Nutrition: Towards the practical feeding of ranched tuna on Day 1, session 1.
Discussing the main limitations that tuna ranching faces, with current feeding practices being not only impractical and largely unstainable, but posing an ecological risk’s that requires immediate attention. This will present a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of tuna nutrition together with results of an ongoing research project funded by the Illinois Soybean Association aimed at developing suitable formulations for some of the most commercially important tuna species being cultured today.
