Iceland''s Naust Marine reports its first Alaskan sale of electrical winches on the Bristol Explorer for B&N fisheries in Seattle. The trawler fishes pollock in the Bering Sea.

"Shipowners in the area are watching very carefully what can they do to save fuel and make fishing more profitable. And they know that one of the most efficient way to save fuel on a trawler is to use electrical winches," says Captain Helgi Kristjansson, Naust sales manager. The two winches from Ibercisa with 180 kW electrical motors are due for delivery this coming April. Naust Marine also said they have quotes out for two more vessels in the same region.

Naust says they delivered their first automatic towing winch in 1981. They have orders for three newbuilds in Taiwan for Icelandic owners. In November they installed a system on the new freezer trawler Franca Morte, owned by Miraduoro in Portugal. It controls three towing winches from Ibercisa, for deep water trawling with 2 trawls.
