Ólöf Helga Jónsdóttir to lead Aquaculture – Driving Sustainable Growth discussion

Fresh from playing a leading role at the recent IAOF conference, Ólöf Helga Jónsdóttir has been confirmed as the chair of the Aquaculture – Driving Sustainable Growth conference at IceFish 2026.
CPO at Kaldvík, Ólöf joined the IAOF (Iceland Aquaculture and Ocean Forum) board last October, and was a Session Chair at last month’s Reykjavík conference on ‘The Icelandic Way to Growth’, as well as taking part in a panel discussion on ‘Investing in Resilient and sustainable growth’.
Bringing together investors, policymakers, industry executives, researchers, and key stakeholders, IAOF 2026 was an invite-only platform focussed on the future of aquaculture, capital markets, and the evolving global seafood economy.
Responsible growth, long-term policy and regulation, innovation and food security, investment in sustainable seafood production and Iceland’s growing role in global aquaculture, were among the topics discussed – themes almost certain to be returned to at the IceFish conference on 22 September.
To further confirm that prediction, the keynote opening address at IAOF was given by H.E. Hanna Katrín Friðriksson, Minister of Industries, and highlighted the Icelandic government’s upcoming Aquaculture Bill, which is expected to be approved by Parliament before the end of summer…. and the start of IceFish.
The Minister also emphasized the government’s economic and employment policy, where aquaculture is identified as one of the key pillars of sustainable growth in Iceland — supporting regional development, innovation, exports and long-term value creation.
Posting online soon after IAOF 2026, Ólöf said: “Feeling incredibly proud to be part of this conference and to serve on its board. While there were countless valuable insights and discussions, the feeling that stays with me most is simple: enjoyment.
“Seeing people connect, learn, collaborate, and genuinely enjoy the experience reminds me why events like this matter so much. What stood out equally was the passion of the people involved and the shared willingness to help our industry grow, together.”
