The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 21 November, following the signing of the contract with with civil engineering company Íslenskir Adalverktakar (IAV).

The contract is for a new 1,440 square metre extension of the fish processing plant and a 260 square metre facility for waste handling and storage for fishing gear.

According to CEO Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, the new building extension will contain a workshop for both the fishing and processing divisions as well as storage space for packaging.

The construction is expected to be completed mid-2015. This will bring all of HB Grandi’s activities in Reykjavik together in a single location, as currently the fishing gear facility and workshops are located off-site.
