Gunnar Thordarson a licensed captain since 1979, with B.S in Business from University of Akureyri and M.Sc. in International Business from University of Bifrost in 2009 Has been active in the Icelandic Fisheries sector and related activities with positions including, Production Manager of shrimp factory in Isafjordur, Iceland, Production Manager in Kamchatha, Russia, Production Manager in Guyamas, Mexico, from 1994-1998, Consultantfor Polar Shrimp in Siglufjordur Iceland in 1998, and King Fish Co in Newfoundland in 1999, General Manager for Sindraberg, fish processing company in Isafjordur 2000-2002, divisional manager for Directorate of Fisheries 2006-2007, Project Manager for Icelandic International Development Agency in Sri Lanka and Uganda 2007-2009, Production Manager for Kerecis, company developed medicinal product from fish skin, in Isafjordur 2009-2011 and a Reginal manager and a consultant at Matis, Isafjordur, from 2012. In 2018 Thordarson joined the board of Strandbunadur ehf. – the Icelandic Aquaculture Conference

In Matis Mr. Thordarson has focused on collaborating with local stakeholders on developing processes for increased value creation with the aim of increasing competitiveness of the local fisheres in the region of the Westfjords, especially with support from the Nordic Innovation, AVS Research fund in Fisheries and the Fisheries Cluster of the Westfjords through support from the economic development agency for the Westfjords.
