Seafish, the UK industry authority on seafood, has been working with Food Standards Scotland and Marine Scotland to produce guidance aimed at helping the fishing industry comply with European regulations on fish traceability.

Over the past year officials from the organisation have been consulting with representatives of the fishing industry in Scotland to put together the guidance for fish buyers.

Pete Wilson from Regulatory Affairs at Seafish said: “As regulations on food continue to get tighter and tighter, it is vital that the fishing industry is able to keep up with what information is required for the fish they catch. This guidance aims to help industry through the regulations and ensure the product has the traceability credentials that many buyers now also demand.”

A full technical guide was produced last year and Seafish has now published a short guidance note along with an easy to follow template. Both are available on the Seafish website.
