FoodChain Europe’s food fraud conference takes place on 21 May

With speakers from The British Frozen Food Federation, DEFRA, The Marine Stewardship Council, Trading Standards and Global ID, the one day conference is the food industry’s chance to find out the latest on the contentious topic of food fraud.

Experts will guide delegates through the complexities of the global supply chain, how food fraud can occur, the potential damage that the problem can cause to brand identity and the steps that can be taken to ensure the validity of food ingredients.

Stuart Shotton, client services director, FoodChain Europe, and a recognised expert on food fraud, said: “It is a sad reality that food fraud is a critical issue in the increasingly complex global supply chain and manufacturers are often unaware of the quality of raw ingredients being supplied to them from external sources. The on-going ‘horse-meat’ story indicates that food fraud is more common than we think."

He added: “The discovery that food has been illegally or ‘fraudulently’ sourced or labelled can lead to costly product recalls or litigation, not to mention loss of consumer trust and brand image.”
