The Seafish fleet survey headed to Cornwall, UK, last week where Seafish chief economist, Hazel Curtis, undertook a number of skipper interviews and got an update on local issues.
The survey for the annual Seafish Economic Report on the UK Fishing Fleet has been underway for several weeks now and will cover every region of the UK in the next couple of months.
Those that participate in the survey, by sharing their annual accounts with Seafish, receive an individual vessel business benchmark report to show how their vessel is performing compared to other vessels. They also qualify for a 50% discount on selected safety gear.
As well as meeting with local skippers, Hazel also liaised with Seafood Cornwall and the Cornish FPO, who are both promoting the survey to their contacts and members.
Curtis explained that this annual survey provides a detailed overview of the financial performance of the UK fleet by sector.
“It enables Seafish to present an accurate, up-to-date picture of industry performance and issues to industry bodies, government, RACs and other regional bodies,” she said.
All survey information, including accounts, is treated as confidential and no individual vessel figures will be revealed.
Other Seafish representatives will continue to meet with skippers in Cornwall and throughout the UK over the next several weeks to give everyone who wants to, a chance to participate in the survey.
