Modified following industry feedback, the app now features improved map functionality, simplified alert creation and better quality notices.

“The updated version taps into the user experience delivered by everyday apps we all use,” said Jonathan Walters, Kingfisher Marine Information Specialist at Seafish.

“Familiar positioning of buttons, use of recognisable icons, and common methods of panning and zooming around a map were asked for during face-to-face demonstrations with fishermen. These are now included in the Kingfisher Bulletin app and greatly improve ease of use.”

Real-time safety

The Kingfisher app delivers vital updates on offshore hazards, including renewable energy developments, oil and gas activities, subsea cables and aggregate projects.

The app currently serves nearly 2,000 users, with 600 taking advantage of personal alerts that notify them of new offshore hazards within their fishing area. Users can set up an account and alert zone in under 60 seconds, ensuring they receive real-time safety updates.

Chris Ranford, chief executive of the Cornish Fish Producers Organisation, said: “The newly designed Kingfisher Bulletin app is an essential tool for fishermen across the UK.”

“There is a huge amount of offshore development either planned or taking place and it’s essential fishermen stay up to date - it’s likely you will be affected.”

The free safety app is available from the Apple App and Google Play stores.
