Chris Britton, chief executive of the Findus Group, said the fact Fish for Life continues to receive awards is recognition for the depth of the company’s business commitment to sustainable fisheries.

“Fish for Life continues to develop with new projects and partnerships – including currently our work to support better certification for aquaculture and our goal to move all our wild fish to MSC by 2012.”

Fish for Life (FFL) is a broad-ranging initiative by Findus to drive improvement in fisheries management through a programme of continuing engagement with suppliers, scientists, industry bodies and NGOs.

It also incorporates an audit mechanism called the FFL Healthcheck - to ensure the responsible sourcing of both farmed and wild seafood for the Young’s and Findus retail brands.

FFL Healthcheck looks at factors such as MSC certification, scientific evidence on the fishery’s stock levels; the legality and management of the fishery and other issues of by-catch and environment. Up-to-date scientific data on fish species and fisheries for this is provided by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.

This is the third award this year for Fish for Life. In June it was named by the EU as winner of the Management Category in the 2010 European Business Awards for the Environment, and more recently it received a Special Award for Excellence in the Food & Drink Federation’s Community Partnership Awards.
