The Fishmongers'' Company and the Shellfish Association of Great Britain have announced an initiative to assist the New Under Ten Fishermen''s Association in their representation of fishermen in the under 10m fleet.

Office space and administrative support will be made available to the New Under Ten Fishermen's Association’s (NUTFA) Chief Executive in the offices used by the Shellfish Association of Great Britain (SAGB) in Fishmongers' Hall, London, together with a meeting room facility.

Richard Benyon, UK Fisheries Minister, said “The Government is looking at ways to reform fisheries management in England, bringing together all parts of the fleet to help build a more sustainable future. It’s important that all fishermen have a voice in this process and it’s only by working in partnership that we will succeed. This collaboration between the Shellfish Association of Great Britain, the Fishmongers’ Company and the New Under Ten Fishermen's Association is a great example of how this can work.”

Jerry Percy, CEO to NUTFA said “the facility offered by Fishmongers' Company will be invaluable in enhancing NUTFA’s operational efficiency. So many meetings take place in London and with NUTFA’s limited resources, the ability to have a base there and to be able to make the very best use of my time on behalf of our membership is fantastic news”.

Dave Cuthbert, Co Chairman of NUTFA expressed his sincere gratitude to Fishmongers' Company and the SAGB for their very kind offer, Dave said, “Jerry has hit the ground running with NUTFA but has been disadvantaged by having to work out of a briefcase when in London. With Defra and the Minister’s current focus on the under tens, he has to spend a great deal of time there and this facility will make his work even more effective”.
