Delft, Netherlands-headquartered algal oil producer Veramaris has partnered with Merwetank BV to construct a bulk algae oil storage tank in Dordrecht, near Rotterdam. Set to be operational from mid-Q4 2025, the facility will significantly enhance supply security and logistics efficiency for Veramaris’ customers.

According to Veramaris, the new tank will improve supply security for aquafeed companies in Europe by allowing more algae oil to be shipped in bulk – alongside other high-volume raw materials – directly to coastal aquafeed factories, thereby reducing costs, complexity and carbon emissions.
Merwetank, a specialist in food-grade bulk logistics, will operate the tank, which includes advanced features to preserve product quality and integrity.
“This new setup brings our product much closer to customers’ existing supply chains,” Veramaris CFO Holger Kinzel said. “It’s a great example of how we’re scaling up with our partners to support bulk deliveries and the continued growth of sustainable aquaculture.”
Veramaris said it is the first supplier in the industry to offer bulk storage and support bulk delivery of algae oil at this scale. The product holds FAMI-QS certification. In addition, Merwetank is FSSC 22000 and GMP+ certified.
“Our journey with Veramaris has been one of genuine partnership and collaboration,” Merwetank Director Wout de Jong said. “We chose to work with them not only because we believe in their mission, but also because we trust their commitment, innovation and integrity. This is a partnership built on shared values and a vision for long-term success together.”
