According to Ómar Bogason, commenting as production came to a close before Christmas, the factory has processed 3600 tonnes during 2016 and production has gone very well through the year, although market circumstances and an unfavourable exchange rate have had a negative effect on the company’s overall performance.

Most of the fish landed to Gullberg has come from the company’s own trawler Gullver, as well as from trawlers Vestmannaey, Bergey, Bjartur and Barði, and there has been a steady supply of raw material all year.

He commented that they are looking forward to the New Year and hope that the present seamen’s strike will be short.

From the 1st of January, Gullberg is absorbed by parent company Síldarvinnslan, which acquired Gullberg and Gullver in 2014. The company has been run under its own name since as an independent operation, but the decision to amalgamate Gullberg into Síldarvinnslan is to streamline activities across the group.
