Veramaris’s 2024 report shows it is successfully reducing emissions whilst maintaining full-scale production

“In 2024, we operated at full capacity for the first time, proving that aquaculture can expand responsibly without deepening its reliance on wild fish stocks for essential long-chain omega-3s,” said Veramaris chief executive Gertjan de Koning.

The milestone underscores Veramaris’s dual achievement of lowering its environmental footprint while demonstrating scalability. As the report makes clear, however, the company’s mission extends beyond emissions.

“Sustainability is about more than just emissions,” the report notes, pointing to aquaculture’s long-standing dependence on wild-caught forage fish for omega-3 supply. This supply has become increasingly volatile due to climate change and shifting fish oil markets.

“Our algae oil has moved from an alternative to a mainstream ingredient and our goal is to secure its long-term place in aquafeed formulations to support the sustainable growth of the industry,” said de Koning.

The 2024 SDR outlines Veramaris’ latest achievements, including expanded industry collaborations, continued emissions reductions and increased market uptake of its omega-3 algae oil.
