Demand for prawns is growing globally, but traditional farming harms the environment

The funding will accelerate the company’s innovative fish farming operations, scaling up its proprietary Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) to produce sustainable, locally-sourced prawns.

“Demand for prawns is growing globally, but traditional farming harms the environment,” said CEO James Fox-Davies.

“This funding enables us to expand our British sushi-grade prawn farm and deliver fresh, eco-friendly prawns to UK diners.”

Fresh offering

The new facility, set to open in Neath, Wales, will supply the restaurant, hospitality trade and consumers by 2025.

Unlike imported frozen prawns, which make up 99.9% of the UK’s 78,000-tonne annual prawn demand, Three-Sixty said its fresh prawns offer superior taste, reduced environmental impact and next-day delivery across the UK.

Backed by investors including chef Marcus Wareing and Matthew Freud, the funding also supports plans to produce over 2,000 tonnes of prawns annually, create local jobs and restore the historic Metal Box building in Neath.

Three-Sixty Aquaculture’s sustainable fish farming approach aims to tackle the environmental challenges of traditional aquaculture while providing a blueprint for global expansion.
