CFO gains Friend of the Sea certification
The CFO has received certification for its cod, turbot, birll and sole
Dutch Cooperative Fishery Organization (CFO) has gained Friend of the Sea certification for its sole, turbot, dab, cod and brill which are fished in the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) areas IV b and c and in Dutch coastal waters.
Jaap Hennekeii, chairman, CFO, said: “Friend of the Sea certification represents an important added value for our products and we are proud to have obtained this important acknowledgment.”
The fishery uses gillnets and trammel nets and operates around 10 miles from the coast to ensure the seabed and spawning and nursery grounds are not impacted.
It also ensures all discards and by catches are reported and that its databases are regularly inspected by authorities.
The CFO is a collaboration of producer organisations which operate in the North Sea, Wadden Sea and coastal waters, Skagerrak and the English Channel.
