Armon to build HB Grandi factory trawler
HB Grandi’s new freezer trawler is expected to be delivered in late 2019
The order for HB Grandi’s new factory vessel has gone to the Astilleros Armon yard in Spain and will be built at the company’s yard at Gijon in northern Spain.
HB Grandi announced last month that it had put building the new trawler out for bids. The new vessel is to be built to a design developed by Rolls-Royce, and the Armon/Rolls-Royce combination is a formula that has already been successful for Norwegian operator Ramoen which took delivery of a new freezer vessel from Armon at the end of last year.
The newbuild is scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2019 and this will be an 81 metre overall, 17 metre beam trawler with a 1000 tonne refrigerated fishroom capacity, with catches palletised.
HB Grandi operates three freezer trawlers, all built between 1988 and 1992, plus another freezer vessel, Helga María, was converted two years ago into a fresher trawler during an extensive refit. Which of the present freezer vessels, Höfrungur III, Örfirisey and Therney, will be replaced by the newbuild is so far undecided.
The newbuild comes with a pricetag of ISK5 billion, equivalent to €43,000,000.
