The vessel has begun its fishing campaign and will meet its home port in the Seychelles by the end of July.

This is Sapmer’s ninth tuna deep freezer. The first seven 90m vessels were delivered between 2009 and 2013, and Morn Seselwa – the prototype of a new 80m series – was delivered in December 2014.

Pascal Piriou, CEO of the Piriou group, said, “Morne Blanc is the last scheduled delivery to date for the Sapmer tuna fleet. Originally designed to be operated in the Pacific Ocean, she opens new markets and we now expect advanced contacts with Asian shipowners to materialise”.

Designed by Piriou Ingenierie and identifiable by her new design, this 80m tuna purse seiner is a multipurpose ‘all ocean’ vessel intended to operate in the Indian Ocean but also, thanks to options, in the Pacific or the Atlantic Ocean.

Features of the vessel include:

  • A slightly inverted bow improving sea-keeping behaviour, performances and crew comfort
  • Several unloading possibilities
  • A platform above the wheelhouse roof
  • Diesel-electric propulsion with highly economic energetic performances
