Alamarin Jet Oy has launched the new Jet Model 288.
The results of intensive research and development by Alamarin Jet, the Model 288 extends the company's existing range to accommodate marine diesel engine power up to 320kW (430bhp) at 3,500 RPM.
UK distributor, Mermaid Marine Limited, says that pre-production units have been used by military and commercial operators with excellent results.
The new jet occupies very little space inside the vessel, extending less that 300mm from the transom into the machinery space, allowing compact installation in all boats whether using a single or twin package.
With a low weight of 110kg the company says that the jet is lighter than competitive units, and creates easier trimming of the vessel.
The front end features an axial thrust bearing that carries loads in both directions. The same bearing also carries radial thrusts.
The jet has mechanical sealing on inlet side and oil circulates thought the reservoir when the main shaft rotates - impurities are gathered in the reservoir making it very easy to maintain.
In the rear there is a grease lubricated needle roller bearing.
The lubrication channel leads from the engine compartment to rear bearing housing. The shaft seals are protected against over pressure and in the end of the shaft there is a slide bushing that can be replaced if worn.
The steering is controlled by mechanical levers and shaft system. The steering lever can be moved mechanically by a cable, hydraulic or electrical device.
The lever is fixed onto the shaft with a taper bush so the position can be chosen freely.
There is a fin in the centreline so that the steering nozzle can work perfectly, causing no resistance when going straight forward.
The aluminium parts that make up the jet are salt water immersion and mechanical abrasion resistant and pre-treatment ensures the paint adhesion to the aluminium. Zinc anodes are placed evenly to cover all areas inside and outside of the unit.
The company says that it is an easy job to replace the zinc, and the inside anodes can be changed without having to disassemble the unit.
