Chile’s Antarctic Sea Fisheries krill meal made from Antarctic krill has achieved Friend of the Sea (FoS) certification.

The company is the only is the only one from Chile that has activity in Antarctic waters. Fishing activities are performed five to six miles from the northern coast of the South Shetland Islands and 26 miles from the George Area.

Vessels do not operate in the Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA) or the Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA) and its fleet does not include illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing vessels.

It also does not over-exploit the resource according to the maximum annual sustainable harvest defined by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).

FoS is an international certification programme that recognises sustainable fisheries and aquaculture practices. So far, over 350 companies in 50 countries have achieved certification.
