Fish Waste for Profit will feature a case study from PT Etmieco Group based in Indonesia, a second-generation family business that has been in the fishing industry for 29 years.

Michella Irawan, Managing Director of PT Etmieco Group, has made it her mission to transform businesses across the fishing supply chain into sustainable marine ecosystem-supporting companies, starting with hers. She is implementing a zero-waste model, including fishing vessels, cold storage plants, and manufacturing. In her role as the NEXUS Indonesia leader and co-chair of NEXUS Asia Energy Innovation and Environment working group, she unites those who help unleash local and global capital in Indonesia.

Michella will present on ‘Zero waste operations in Indonesia: a 10-15 year plan to achieve 100% utilization in the tuna industry’. Irawan envisages a future in which all businesses enhance their employees’ quality of life, while also building a thriving community and natural ecosystem in which they operate.

Her latest endeavour is a makerspace - innovation lab in her fishing factory. Dedicated for marine technology & fishery innovation with the focus on efficiency and safety. In hope through this space, when the local craftsmen work with the innovation program, we can raise community awareness and unleash local innovation to build the blue economy ecosystem

Michella will be joined by companies from Scotland, Ireland and Denmark who will also be offering international case studies.
