The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation co-founded by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and The Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) to manage a third party certification and labelling programme for aquaculture around the globe.

The ASC Standards require farm performance to be measured against both environmental and social requirements. The standards were created by WWF and developed in line with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations Guidelines. The ASC is the only aquaculture certification scheme to be recognised as a full member of the ISEAL Alliance, which requires inclusive and transparent standard setting.
ASC certificate holders must operate at the highest industry standards to ensure the preservation of the natural environment, biodiversity and water resources and provide good working conditions for their employees. The ASC follows a third party verification system and every farm or company seeking to become certified must be audited by qualified, external, independent assessors. The ASC logo assures buyers that the fish they purchase has been responsibly sourced, with minimal impacts on society and the environment, and is fully traceable back to a well-managed farm.
