Ducht based Maaskant shipyards has delivered a new beam trawler for Van Dam V. O.F. at Goedereede (Holland) last month. Vrouw Grietje is fishing for demersal fish in the North Sea. Maaskant has also built a new mussel dredger, LoliPop, at its installation in Bruinisse (Holland) for the British company Myti Mussels Ltd from Wales.

LoliPop
This Maaskant mussel dredger is a modern highly innovating mussel dredger.
The Vessel is equipped with a newly developed fishing system (patent pending).
The basic functions are: harvesting, processing, transportation and relaying.
The design features are: very low draught, excellent manoeuvrability and stability and high pay load.
Although the Vessel is fully equipped with a processing system and an unloading crane the draught with full stores is not more than 0.70 m.
Unique for this kind of vessel is the diesel electric operation including the propulsion by means of two electrically driven rudder propellers.
Despite the modest main dimensions and exceptionally low draught the loading capacity is 44 big bags, or when fished in bulk, 100 tonnes.
Main dimensions:
Length over all: 21.00 m
Breadth moulded: 9.00 m
Depth moulded: 2.00 m
Draught departure port: 0.70 m
Hold capacity: 64 m3
Design
The shape of the hull is pontoon-like, with a swim head and a transom stern. The hull bottom is smooth and without lugs. The aft ship has two integrated tunnels to allow optimal flow to the propellers.
The hull is built in steel with an aluminium wheelhouse. With the main engine room situated forward and the superstructure and the winches on the aft side of the hold the vessel offers excellent draught and trim characteristics.
The production hold has a large loading capacity.
The floor in the mussel hold is situated well above the unloaded waterline, so the hold is self-draining.
Operation
The excellent manoeuvrability, efficient lay out and wheelhouse touch screen controlled winches, newly developed fishing system and the processing equipment make the Maaskant Mussel Dredger easy to handle by a small crew.
Propulsion
Two electric motors, each 160 kW are driving each one Veth Z-drive rudder propeller. Speed of the vessel is 8.5 knots. Thrust and direction of thrust are controlled by two combined handles in the wheelhouse.
Winches
The BS-1 has two single-drums Maaskant fishing winches and a single drum anchor winch with steel wire and a 125 kg. HHP anchor.
