The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) is continuing its strongest year since inception with third quarter revenues of £33.6m – a rise of 82% on the same period in 2013.

SSC harvested 8,779 tonnes during Q3, a 93.7% increase on 2013, and has now revised its forecast for the year upwards to 30,000 tonnes. This news follows record half year results for both revenues and harvests during the first six months of 2014.
Craig Anderson, managing director, SSC, said: “We are enjoying a record year at the SSC and this is built on the quality of our product, our guarantee of its provenance and Scottish origins and our commitment to the people and places where we work.”
He pointed out that these results are even more important because the salmon industry as a whole has been facing many issues of late including higher mortality due to higher water temperatures. This has meant that SSC has had to address the issue through a variety of measures including stricter protocols, training and monitoring - all of which have increased costs.
“Our investment programme is aimed at both making us more efficient and able to offer new diverse services to our customers," Mr Anderson added.
He said that SSC has also ramped up its commitment to sustainability in 2014. This means more caring for the local community and providing job security for some of the more remote areas of Scotland where the company works.
The firm also supports local events and promotes education through the learning and training programmes it runs with local schools.
