Aldi has invested over £45 million in the UK seafood industry, supporting suppliers and expanding its sustainably sourced fish offerings

This includes Aldi’s Scottish supplier, Thistle, which has been supplying the supermarket for more than 20 years with coated fish, fish cakes and its Specially Selected frozen cod and haddock.

“At Aldi, we are incredibly proud of the long-standing relationships we have with British fisheries across the country,” said Julie Ashfield, managing director of Buying at Aldi UK.

“This increased investment demonstrates our commitment to these partnerships and our dedication to providing our customers with high-quality, sustainably sourced British fish.”

The investment has seen Aldi, which is the UK’s third largest fish retailer, continue to expand its British-sourced fish offering with 20 new products launched so far in 2024, including its British Pollock, Chunky Breaded Cod and Haddock.

Aldi works in collaboration with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to foster continuous improvement of fisheries. The company uses certification programmes such as the Marine Stewardship Council for wild-caught fish and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council for farmed fish and seafood.

In 2023, Aldi was crowned the MSC UK Mid-size Store Retailer of the Year for increasing its number of MSC-certified fish and seafood products.
