The IceFish Conference, Fish Waste for Profit, is pleased to announce its first speaker; Dr Hólmfríður Sveinsdóttir, Managing Director of Protis.

The conference will take place on 14 September 2017 in Kópavogur, Iceland, and will cover the fish waste pyramid of value from bottom to top. The aim of the conference is to inform international fisheries professionals about the opportunities available to them in the fish waste reuse sector.

With so much of the fish discarded during processing, the companies who will be presenting on the Icelandic Fisheries Conference programme represent a number of entrepreneurial individuals who have increased their profits by utilising otherwise discarded material.

Dr Hólmfríður Sveinsdóttir holds a Ph.D. in Food Science and a Master’s Degree in Nutrition Sciences, and has been at the forefront of the research and development of the current products on the market. We are very excited to hear how this company, established in 2015, develops products from quality Icelandic raw material, which is obtained and processed in a sustainable manner, for the customers who are looking for high quality natural health products.

This Icelandic biotech company specialises in the development, production and marketing of bioactive fish protein derived from the by-products from the processing of wild Icelandic cod (Gadus morhua) using the IceProtein® technique.

Fish protein is extracted using a hydrolysis technique and then treated with water and enzymes that divide the proteins into smaller peptide units. The peptides are then filtered so only the smallest remain, leaving protein that consists of only small bioactive peptides.

Protis is just one of the innovative companies joining us at Fish Waste for Profit, stay tuned for more information.
