Paula Sylvia recently joined the Unified Port of San Diego in San Diego, CA as a Program Manager for Aquaculture and Blue Technology. In her new role, she will be developing opportunities for aquaculture and blue technology businesses in and around San Diego Bay, as well as regionally. Before coming to the Port, Paula worked as a Research Biologist for NOAA-National Marine Fisheries Service, Southwest Fisheries Science Center in La Jolla, CA for 2.5 years. Prior to her NOAA position, she worked as a Program Manager in the Aquaculture department at Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute in San Diego, CA for 13 years. In both of these roles, Paula was responsible for managing programs or projects designed to promote aquaculture development in the United States, specifically in California and Mexico for fisheries replenishment and food production purposes. Paula was born and raised in Boston, MA but has resided in San Diego since 2000, currently with her 13 year old son Liam. Paula holds an MSc in Aquaculture from the University of Stirling in Scotland and an MBA-Business from the University of Phoenix. Paula enjoys all ocean activities, cooking, sports, and spending quality time with family and friends.
