French boatbuilder, Piriou has delivered a new 80m tuna deep freezer purse seiner to new owner Sapmer – its eighth so far for the operator.

Built by Piriou in Vietnam, the Morn Seselwa will operate in the Indian Ocean and be based in the Seychelles.
The diesel-electric propelled vessel is an evolution of the previous 90m tuna seiner generation and benefits from the feedback of the existing fleet and from a close collaboration between the ship-owner and the shipyard for future development.
It is versatile enough to be operated in the Indian Ocean as well as in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans thanks to several variants that Piriou has made available.
Designed by Piriou Ingenierie and immediately noticeable by its new design, this new 80m tuna purse seiner features a slightly inverted bow improving sea-keeping behaviour, performance and crew comfort.
It also has several unloading possibilities including handling either through deck panels or the side shell door, or the platform above the roof of the wheelhouse which also allows helicopter or UAV landing.
The construction of this tuna purse seiner was started in December 2013. Piriou will now offer its other customers the design as a part of its full deep seiner range.
This first unit will be followed by a sistership to be delivered to Sapmer in the first quarter of 2015.
