The project secured £109,000 of grant aided matched-funding from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG).

The vast majority of Looe’s residents voted firmly in favour of this far-sighted and mutually beneficial harbourside project, financially co-ordinated by Looe Harbour Authority’s Tina Hick, designed by local architect Stephen Huckstep and project managed by aptly named Colin Crabb of CFC Marine And Building Services.

The project is intended to bring all the activities of the fishing industry much closer to its consumers and support from the local community has continued to grow since construction was first announced in early January 2013, taking just five months to reach completion.

The new centre provides a covered display area for fishing industry and RNLI training courses, fish/farmers and handicraft markets and music concerts, as well as providing six seagull-proofed car parking spaces for local businesses.

And Looe’s retired fishermen and visiting holidaymakers have not been forgotten, as a superbly crafted glass shelter now provides a panoramic and weatherproof view of the comings and goings of this busy commercial fishing port.
