This machine makes it possible to form blocks of fish and minced fish into the shapes and sizes that a customer requires.
According to Torfi Th Thorsteinsson, head of HB Grandi’s groundfish division, the acquisition of this machine is a step forward in the company’s progress towards increasing product values.
“Block and mince are among the lower-cost products we sell and by adding this machine we are certainly increasing the values of these products. Until now we have whole, frozen, block and mince, but now this gives us the opportunity to process this fresh and mould them to the required shape before freezing. That’s where the added value is to be found,” he said, adding that the new equipment, along with production lines and an IQF system, will be located in the production area on the upper floor of the company’s Akranes factory.
“It’s also a likely that this production will mean more jobs at Akranes, but the full extent of this is not yet certain,” Torfi Th Thorsteinsson said.
