Provisional programme released: new speakers announced

Starting from the early stages

This year’s programme will cover all aspects of the process of moving your operations offshore, starting with case studies of successful offshore farms from all over the world. This session, entitled ‘Moving from inefficient “nearshore” production approaches to higher energy offshore/industrial approaches’, will feature speakers such as Joep Kleine Staarman from Barramundi Asia. Staarman will discuss a local example of offshore farming in Singapore. Case studies in this session, both local and international, will help local attendees gather the information they need to develop their own offshore business.

Zoning, licencing and security will also be covered in the early part of the conference and will feature speakers such as Hayri Deniz from the National Union of Turkish Aquaculture Producers and formerly Director of Overseas Investment and International Relations at Kilic in Turkey.

Hatchery development is an area of key significance for the Southeast Asian region and the lack of a reliable supply of fingerlings is one of the elements which is holding the industry back. Session 3 will focus on the ‘development of large scale hatcheries for production of large quantities of high quality fingerlings, including breeding advances and technology’.

Exploring processes further down the chain

Aspects such as species selection, marketing, and investment are all important considerations when building a successful offshore venture. Sessions such as ‘securing financial support for offshore ventures and joint venture approaches’ and ‘identifying/targeting species and markets before production including requirements for standards and certifications’ will feature presentations from leading companies. Attendees will hear from individuals who are successfully producing and selling offshore raised fish and will be provided with the unique opportunity to learn what it takes to make their product commercially viable and competitive.

International technology providers will inform farmers on the latest caging and monitoring technologies on day two of the conference, which could boost productivity and help their businesses thrive. Confirmed speakers for this session include Tyler Sclodnick and Langley Gace from InnovaSea. This will be followed by a breakout session covering the adaptation of proven offshore mariculture technology for the Asian region

The programme comes to a close with a technical session on maximising the efficiency of your operation using high quality feeds and targeted nutrition.
