The Norwegian catch insight company Catchwise has made the news recently courtesy of its catch-efficient vessel ranking in Norway for 2025.
One of the main goals behind creating the ranking was to give recognition to those who work most efficiently at sea. But the findings have also been pretty good for business.
“We created the list to honour crews and vessels that have worked hard and delivered solid results,” said Tomas Roaldsnes CEO and co-founder of Catchwise.
“For us, it’s especially nice to see that so many who use Catchwise are also represented in the ranking. We think it’s great that those who are most forward-thinking see benefits in adopting new tools like Catchwise.”
Catchwise users
The ranking saw efficiency measured as tonnes of fish landed per day at sea, based on catch data from all of 2025.
Several of the vessels performing well in the ranking are also users of the Catchwise service.
For comparison, about 20% of Norwegian fishing vessels use Catchwise, while the proportion on the top list is higher: Nearly one in three of the vessels in the ranking (18 out of 60) are Catchwise users.
Mr Roaldsnes said that Catchwise is built in collaboration with skippers to make the service as useful as possible for those at sea.
The response to the new features that Catchwise introduced in 2025 have been positive and it was also a year of clear growth for the company. According to Mr Roaldsnes, the number of users doubled during the year.
“We learn a lot from seeing how people in the industry actively work to become more efficient. It gives us both inspiration and direction when we further develop the tool,” he said.
Catchwise hopes the ranking can continue to be a low-threshold way to highlight good performances and create conversations about efficiency.
