“By partnering with GSSI, we’re able to further our commitment to responsibly sourced seafood, while building trust with our customers. Using GSSI’s benchmarking as a foundational tool in our sourcing strategy will help clarify our expectations to our farmers, fishers, and suppliers,” Wegmans Seafood Group Manager, Steve Philips, said.

“GSSI is an industry-leading organisation, where all its partners share a common goal. We’re excited to join the conversation and help drive the industry forward to a more sustainable future,” he added.

Founded in 1916, Wegmans is a family-owned company with 106 stores across the eastern United States.

Last month, multinational fishing and processing company Profand Fishing Holding also joined GSSI as a Funding Partner.
