Norway achieves record-breaking month for exports

This milestone marks the highest monthly export value in Norway’s history, fueled by unprecedented demand for Norwegian mackerel.

“Never before has a higher value of seafood been exported in a single month,” said Christian Chramer, CEO of the Norwegian Seafood Council.

“This is primarily due to exceptionally strong mackerel exports that accounted for nearly all the growth in value this October.”

Record breaking

Norwegian mackerel exports soared to NOK 2.5 billion, breaking previous records by a substantial margin.

High demand across Asian markets and strong competition have bolstered prices, securing Norway’s reputation for premium seafood.

Exports were further supported by increased volumes and sustained high prices, making mackerel the standout performer in Norway’s seafood sector.

October was also a notable month for salmon exports, which reached a monthly record of NOK 12 billion, driven by strong markets in the US and EU.

Salmon exports to the US alone saw growth of NOK 100 million, reflecting increased consumer purchasing power and demand for Norwegian fish.

Overall, the Norwegian seafood industry continues to benefit from robust global demand, particularly in Asian markets, which saw a 31% increase in October alone.

These gains underscore Norway’s role as a top player in seafood export, with significant growth potential as demand for premium, sustainably sourced seafood continues worldwide.
