Lower Q3 salmon harvest for Bakkafrost, feed sales down
Atlantic salmon farmer Bakkafrost Group harvested a total 20,800 tonnes of head-on gutted (HOG) weight fish in the third-quarter of this year, with reduced volumes for the period from both its Faroese and Scottish operations.
According to the company’s latest trading update, the Faroes harvested a total 16,700 tonnes of salmon in the quarter, which represented a decrease of 100 tonnes from the corresponding period of 2022. The contribution from its Farming North segment amounted to 12,000 tonnes, while Farming West and Farming South supplied 2,000 tonnes and 2,800 tonnes, respectively.
Its Scottish farming segment, meanwhile, harvested of 4,100 tonnes in Q3 2023, down from 8,100 tonnes a year previously. Scotland North provided 2,900 tonnes and Scotland South 1,200 tonnes.
Also in the last quarter, Bakkafrost sold 35,900 tonnes of feed, a decrease of 1,900 tonnes year-on-year. Its fish feed business Havsbrún sourced 109,700 tonnes of raw materials in the three-month period.
