UK 2025 seafood processing canvass gets underway

The survey gathers valuable data, such as staff employment, operating costs, species processed and turnover, with the aim to help policymakers make informed decisions and offer insights into economic trends and business performance.

Additionally, the year-on-year data provides a snapshot of the industry and serves as a useful resource for understanding how external factors impact its performance.

“Seafood processors are an essential part of the UK seafood supply chain. Taking part in our survey allows us to gather data that helps us understand the issues faced by the processing sector and the support businesses might need to respond to these issues,” Seafish Economics Project Manager Carlos Paredes said.

The survey has previously highlighted challenges the processing industry has faced, such as labour shortages and the impact of rising energy prices.

Data collected from previous surveys has informed government policy development on complex issues such as access to labour, seafood trade and energy usage. It has also been used by businesses to benchmark their performance against equivalent businesses which is beneficial when seek new finance or grant support.
