Scania helps with upgrade of Basque fleet
Four new Spanish trawlers have been fitted with Scania powered gen-sets as part of a fleet renovation programme in the Basque region of Spain.
Built by one of northern Spain’s leading shipyards, Astilleros de Pasaia, the four deep sea trawlers will form part of a new fleet which have been modernised as a result of European fishing quota regulations.
The first vessel, the Nuevo Hermanos, which has been fitted with Scania gen-sets, is 37.5m long with a 215M3 fish hold capacity and an overall weight of 340 tonns.
Electrical power is provided by two generating sets from the Scania D112 12 cylinder diesel engine range.
The mai fishing grounds for this vessel and the other three that have been launched is the Bay of Biscay, the North Atlantic and areas such as the Azores and Canary Islands.
